Suboxone Methods to Treat Drug Addiction
Addiction to dangerous street drugs such as cocaine or heroin can reach a level where the life and welfare of the addict is in jeopardy. When it reaches this level, rehabilitation is clearly required before the condition further worsens. There are many addiction rehabilitation programs that are set up to apply a host of different methods and therapies that have been developed. A common detox technique that has long been used is to totally cease use of the addicting substance. This usually presents severe withdrawal problems, which can be reduced with certain medications, but this phase is still very trying on the addict due to its strong physical reaction. One way to avoid the severe withdrawal response is by substituting a less potent opiate, which eliminates or mitigates the withdrawal symptoms. This permits the patient to be gradually “weaned” off the more dangerous substance. One of the substitution drugs that can be used is suboxone. It has sufficient strength to quell severe withdrawal symptoms, yet if administered with care and supervision can bring about very good results. Therapy using suboxone requires a doctor’s supervision to monitor and adjust the dosage to reduce the addictive response based on the original drug addiction. When this point is reached, the suboxone can be stopped. By removing the addiction relatively gently, the difficult withdrawal symptoms can be avoided. The suboxone treatment center specializes in this form of treatment by substituting a milder opiate.
There are some risks associated with suboxone therapy. One is that a suboxone addiction can result. This may happen when supervision of the dosages of suboxone is improperly done properly, or if the recovering patient fails to follow directions. Illegal use of suboxone can also occur and when used without supervision this way it can lead to addiction. More information about the successful suboxone treatment programs can be reviewed on the website.
